In Wilmot, Waterloo Co., C. W, at the residence of Abraham Bricker, son of the deceased, on the 14th October, Nancy, wife of the late John Bricker, at the advanced age of 91 years, 10 months, and 2 days. She came from Cumberland Co., Pa., to Canada in the Spring of 1802, and lived here, respected by all, to the day of her death. She was a sister of Daniel and Jacob Erb, to whom the German Company Tract of Waterloo Township was deeded in 1865, also of Abraham Erb, the founder of Waterloo Village. She was buried on the 16th in the old burying-ground in the village of Blair. This is the oldest piece of ground selected for burying purposes in Waterloo, and she was the one who made the selection. Sixty-two years ago, while her husband was away to the States, one of her sons died, and as there was no place to bury the dead she went up to the hill, a little distance from where they were then living, and found an open little little(sic) place where she decided to bury her dead. She planted a tree at the foot of the little grave which tree is now about ten inches in diameter. She herself gave ground for a public cemetery, and for that reason wished to be buried there. Moses Bowman and Daniel Wismer officiated on the occasion. Only one or two are still living who came to Canada so early as the deceased.- Waterloo Chronicle.

    Notes:

(Research):FROM A BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF WATERLOO TOWNSHIP, Ezra E. Eby Nicholaus Erb, the first knownancestor of this name, came to America with his family in 1722[sic] on the ship 'Charming Nancy'. He was Swiss by birth and,it is said, his father desired him to become a Catholic priest, but he joined the Mennonites and left his native country due to
    religious persecution.
'He resided for some time at a place called Westerhoof,
Switzerland before he immigrated to America. There were
dangerous neighbours, and since the times must have been
somewhat turbulent, it was known that he lived under the
promised protection of a lord or superior. In an unexpectedattack, it had been agreed that he should give notice by firinga gun. It is also related that either to try the efficiency of
the signal or the faithfulness of his landlord, he fired the
gun and in a short time had the satisfaction of seeing hisprotector with his retainers coming to his assistance as fast
    as horses could bring them.

ADDITIONAL NOTE by RICHARD WARREN DAVIS: 'He [Nicholas] mayhave first married Magdalena Widmer, and she may have been the
mother of the first few children. This info not certain.' Since the third child is named Magdalena (1718), this
would suggest that the first three children may be MagdalenaWidmer's. This would include John Hans 1713 and Anna 1716. But
no other source confirms this marriage, and Davis himself isnot sure of it. So I have not included it in Nicholas's gedcom
