- (Research):Gospel Herald - Volume XLVII , Number 42 - October 20, 1953 --- page 1014, 1015Hoover, -- Joseph B., son of Samuel L. and Fannie (Barkey) Hoover, was born on June 16, 1873, at Ringwood, Ont.; died suddenly as a result of an automobile accident, Sept. 19, 1953; aged 80 y. 3 m. 3 d. On Feb. 6, 1900, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Smith, who died in 1921. To this union were born Alvin, who died in 1918, Elsie and Sarah;Mrs. Thomas D. Grove. Also surviving is a foster daughter (Clara;Mrs. Alvin Byer, Forwich, Ont.). One Oct. 3, 1923, he was married to Ida Ressor, who survives. The family of deceased is Elsie Ann Wideman (deceased); Ralph; Lydia Miller, Mazeppa, Alta.; Esther Wideman; Fannie McDowell; and Samuel, who died in 1899. Bro. Hoover was a lifelong member of the Elmira Mennonite Church, and a Christian whose life was an encouragement to his family, his ministers, the church, and the community in which he lived. Funeral services were conducted at the Wideman Church by Elmer H. Burkholder, A. Lorne Burkholder, Floyd S. Schmucker, and Aaron D. Grove, with burial in the church cemetery.
