Obituary:
- Amanda was likely born in Brubacher House situated on Columbia Street opposite the University of Waterloo, Ontario. This old farmhouse has been preserved by the University of Waterloo, done in recognition of the Pennsylvania German settlers who first occupied and developed these lands. Amanda married Oliver Martin on November 25, 1891, at the family farm.
Amanda and Oliver Martin lived in Waterloo, Ontario, at 69 Dorset Street, where their children, Earl and Bertha, were likely born. He was employed by the Jacob Y. Shantz Button Factory on Water St. N., Kitchener. The couple had two children: Earl (1893-1962) and Pearl/Bertha (1900-?). In 1910, Oliver died in a tragic train accident west of Sudbury, Ontario, and by 1918 Amanda and her children moved down the street to 82 Dorset Street where she lived until her death in 1943. Her son Earl Martin and his wife Hilda stayed on in the house until at least the 1970s.
