- KIM BARBER OBITUARY
Kim Soby Barber July 19, 1961 - Jan. 18, 2013 Resident of Concord Kim Soby Barber passed peacefully in her home on January 18 with devoted husband Michael Bauman holding her, two friends Carole and Faith comforting her and with her cat Romeo resting on her lap. She fought a brave and energetic fight against cancer for 7 ½ years. Born in San Francisco, she graduated from Del Valle High School (Walnut Creek) and received her BA from UC-Santa Barbara. She discovered her true vocational calling in instructional design - earning a Master's from San Francisco State in 2003 and subsequently creating award-winning e-learning educational materials through her work at Golden Gate University and Kaiser Permanente. Her work in developing highly-interactive and instruction-ally-sound web-based courses for nurses is one of many legacies she leaves behind. Her passion for sharing knowledge and skills has inspired so many people, and will be long remembered. Kim thrived by interacting and traveling with her friends. One of her greatest pleasures was when her friends became friends after being introduced by her. Whether hiking Mount Diablo or Yosemite, biking around Lake Tahoe, bird-watching in Tucson or seeing a Broadway show in New York, Kim was full of loving energy & spark in whatever she did, and with whomever she met. Late in her young life, Kim - and all of us - discovered her love & talent for color pencil drawing - especially of flowers. She was very proud to have her work shown in local art shows. Kim is survived by her mother Jan Hoadley Glossman, father Paul Soby, step-father Norton Glossman, step-mother Annette Soby and brother Eric Soby. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Kim asked for no public service, but donations to help expand an organic food program for cancer patients and their families can be made in her memory to Ceres Community Project and sent to 1963 Esperanza Drive, Concord, CA 94519.
