FALLS ON HIM
Prominent Farmer
Is Killed by Tractor
Harry Lloyd Snyder, 39, of
RR 3, Waterloo, prominent in
local farm circles, was crushed to
death yesterday after the tractor
he was driving rolled over on
him.
Waterloo Township Police said
the fatal mishap took place after
Mr. Snyder backed his tractor
312 feet from a shed to pull a
car out which he apparently
thought was stuck.
Police said the tractor slipped
over a bank as he was backing to
the car, dropped about five feet,
turned over and came to rest
upside down on top of Mr. Snyd-
er, crushing him to death.
"MOST UNFORTUNATE"
The car was driven by Dr. C.
Robert Buck, 36 Erb St. East.,
Waterloo, a veterinary surgeon.
Dr. Buck today told The Record
the fatality was "most unfortun-
ate" as his car really wasn't stuck.
"Mr. Snyder saw that I was
having difficulty and started
backing out of the lane as I was
moving my car back to take an-
other run." he said.
Police said the tractor came
to rest about 12 feet from the
travelled portion of the lane and
that death was due to a crushed
chest.
There were about seven inches
of snow in the laneway.
TRACTOR REMOVED
The tractor was removed by
another tractor driven by a neigh-
bor, Herbert Carey.
Police Chief Thomas Living-
stone believes death was instan-
taneous.
Dr. C.C. Belyea, coroner, ar-
rived at the scene and pronounc-
ed him dead. No inquest will be
held.
The Snyder farm is located on
township road 39, between Glas-
gow street, Kitchener, and Erb
street west, Waterloo.
Mr. Snyder was a past presi-
dent of the Ontario Shorthorn
Association. He was also a mem-
ber of the Waterloo County Soil
and Crop Improvement Associa-
tion and the Waterloo County
Federation of Agriculture.
FORMER DIRECTOR
He was also former director
of the Waterloo Cattle Breeding
Association and belonged to the
Waterloo Township Plowmen's
Association.
Born March 31, 1918, he was a
son of the late Noah S. Snyder
and Mrs. Veronica Snyder of Wa-
terloo, who survives.
He farmed on the farmon
which he was born all his life.
He was a member of the Wa-
terloo Mennonite Church.
His wife, the former Dorothy
Kipfer, survives.

wart, 3; two daughters, Terryl,
