- Osburg-Sanders A pretty autumn wedding was solemnized at Sacred Heart Catholic church at Fort Madison, last Tuesday morning, September 27, (1938) when Miss Celesta Osburg, daughter of Mrs. Clara Osburg of Fort Madison, and Mr. Edmund Sanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sanders of Houghton, were united in marriage. The Rev. Leo S. Roling, pastor of the church, officiated and read the nuptial Mass.The attendants were Rita Dingman, a friend of the bride, and Herman Sanders, brother of the groom. The ushers were Joseph Sanders and Cletus Freitag.The bride wore a white gown over silk taffeta. The gown was fashioned Elizabethian style, fitted bodice of lace, the skirt fashioned from silk tulle and made full and the sleeves being short and puffed. Her finger tip veil was held in place with a tiara of roses, and she carried an arm bouquet of white roses. She wore gingerless gloves, and slippers of white faille and satin.The bridesmaids wore a floor length gown of taffeta in Alice Blue shade, and was fashioned with a shirred bodice, full skirt and short puffed sleeves. She wore a doll hat to match, a corral necklace that matched the are bouquet of gladioli she carried.The groom, his attendant, and the ushers wore dark suits with rosebud boutonneires.Following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party and to members of both families in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Andrews. Mrs. Andrews is a sister of the bride. A wedding dinner was served in the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sanders, near Houghton.The bride is a graduate of Catholic Central High School at Fort Madison, class of 1936. She has been employed in the office of the W. A. Sheaffer Pen Company at Fort Madison.The groom is a graduate of St. John's School at Houghton and is employed as manager of the meat department with a Benteco store in Burlington, Iowa.Mr. and Mrs. Sanders entertained at a dance in Sacred Heart parish hall at Fort Madison on last Tuesday evening, to which their relatives and friends were invited.Mr. and Mrs. Sanders left for a two week's trip to Colorado. The bride's traveling ensemble was of Dubonnet velvet, with hat and accessories to match."
