Obituary:
- 1923-2024
It is with both, sadness at her passing and gratitude, for her life well-lived, that the family announces the passing of Emmalien Lichti. She passed away peacefully, at Nithview Seniors Village, on March 21, 2024, in her 101st year. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, outstanding grandmother and great-grandmother, and a good friend to many. Emmalien was born on November 29, 1923, on the Wagler family farm, at Punkeydoodles Corner. Wife of the late Elmon Lichti, whom she married on November 28, 1945.
Sadly missed by her children, Ruth Jantzi (d. April 24, 2024) and husband Kenneth, and Jim Lichti and wife Jennie. Emmalien was blessed with five grandsons and their spouses, Darrell and Patricia Jantzi (North York), Gregory and Alison Jantzi (Georgetown), Philip Lichti and Perri Lo (Vancouver), Timothy Lichti and Rochelle Lee (Kitchener), and Stephen Lichti and Jessica Walsh (Ottawa); as well as three great-grandchildren, Michael Jantzi, Stephanie Jantzi, and Simon Lichti.
Emmalien is fondly remembered by her sister, Lydia; and husband, Glen Schumm; sister-in-law, Mildred Lichti; and by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Elmon Jacob Lichti (d. December 14, 2005); an infant daughter (1952); her parents, Daniel and Mary (Zehr) Wagler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Ruby Wagler, Lloyd and Ruby Wagler, Daniel and Audrey Wagler; and by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Erma and Merlin Bender, Alma and Ken Yantzi. Also predeceased by Lichti in-laws, Leona and Mervin Bender, Stanley and Erma Lichti, Lincoln and Maryann Lichti, Elroy and Loretta Lichti, Mervin and Geneva Lichti and Ken Lichti.
Emmalien and Elmon farmed for many years, in East Zorra Township. She was a faithful member of Tavistock Mennonite Church. She was a volunteer during the early decades of the New Hamburg MCC Relief Sale, volunteered at the New Hamburg MCC Thrift Store for 35 years, and was active in the women's quilting group at church.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Emmalien with her family during visitation, at the Frances Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock, on Saturday, May 4th, from 1-4 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 5th, at Tavistock Mennonite Church, 131 Wettlaufer St., Tavistock.
