Jonas W. DetwilerLena - Jonas Wenger Detwiler, 83, of Lena died Wednesday, April 14, 1993, athome. A retired farmer, he operated dairy farms in Stephenson and Jo Daviewss counties. He was a member of Cedarville Evangelical Congregational Church serving as trustee, treasurer and in other capacities. He also was a member of Dadger Lapidary and Geological Society of Monroe, Wis. A regular swimmer at the YMCA, he swam 800 to 1000 miles. Born Nov. 10, 1909, in Cherry Box, Shelby County, Mo. he was a son of William Hershey and Barbara Ann (Dettwiler) Detwiler. He attended Heston Mennonite School. On Feb 25, 1941, he married Edna Ruth Goeke in Dakota. Surviving are his wife; two sons, David (Patty) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Robert (Marilyn) of Stockton; two grandchildren, Denise of Freeport and Bradley of Stockton; three step-grandchildren, Kevin and Karin Streevy of Marion, Iowa, and Andrew Streevy of San Diego, Calif. Also two brothers, Earl (Edna) of Kirksville, Mo. and John (Betty) of Goshen, Ind.; and one sister, Ruth Kreider of Palmyra, Mo. Preceding him in death were one brother, Paul of Rock Island and one sister Freida Pfile of Freeport. Funeral service will be at 1 pm Saturday in Leamon Funeral Home, Lena. The Rev. Glenn Hansen will officiate. Burial will be in Dakota Cemetery, Dakota.
