- (Research):JONAS, Roland Herman Passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the age of 79. Beloved and devoted husband of 50 years to Barbara (nee Cochrane); loving father of Peter (Susan) Jonas, Christina Jonas (Rick Keir), Susan (Tom) Shantz, and Kathy (Mike) Hahn. Cherished grandfather to Scott, Alina, Brittany, Cassandra, Courtney, Jessica, Breanne, Garrett, Alexandria, Kara, Rylan and Krista. Survived by his mother Irene, brother Harold and sister Evelyn (Alan) Scott. Predeceased by his father Carl and sister-in-law Gusti. Roland was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a long-time member of the Galt Sportsmen's Club and German Continental Club. A successful businessman, he founded Jonas TV and Appliances in 1953. An avid outdoorsman, he loved going to his fishing lodge on Lake Maskinonge, Sudbury. He passed on his love of fishing to all of his children and grandchildren. He will lovingly be remembered for his many adventurous Easter egg hunts that covered 25 acres, as well as one year surprising the grandkids with real baby bunnies. Cremation has taken place according to Roland's wishes. A private family service will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life for relatives and friends at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St., Cambridge, on Monday, May 2nd from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A private interment will follow at a later date. If so desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. We are so proud of you, all that you taught us and sacrificed for us. Words cannot describe how much you mean to us and how much we will miss you. Thank you for the precious memories, Dad.
