- Ernie was a life long resident of Caledonia. He had been a rural Postal Ca rrier for 30 years, and a member of the retired Rural Letter Carriers of A merica. He was a Decorated Army Veteran of WWII, having been wounded in Ge rmany while serving with the 9th Army. He was hospitalized in Belgium, a nd then in France before being sent to an Army Hospital in Galesburg, Illi nois and later transferred to Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan whi le recuperating from his wounds. He was a member of the Caledonia United M ethodist Church, and a Member of the Homemakers, a Life Member of the Amer ican Legion Post 305, a Life Member of the D.A.V., a Life Member of the R. C. Hathaway Lodge, a Life Member of the Caledonia Chapter of the Ord er of Eastern Star, and an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and a M ember of the Kent County Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary. He died in Kent C ommunity Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan at age 74 years, 5 months, a nd 12 days.

CALEDONIA - Mr. Ernest W. Shook, 74, of 404 East Main Street, Caledonia, w ent to be with his Lord Wednesday, February 2, 1994.Mr. Shook was born on August 21, 1919 in Caledonia Township the son of Harvey K. Shook and Veva P. Detwiler Shook.He had been a postal carrier for 30 years. Mr. Shook married Virginia L. M iller.He was a Veteran of World War II. A member of the Caledonia United Methodi st Church, a life member of the American Legion, life member of the D.A.V ., life member of the R.C. Hathaway Lodge, life member of the Caledonia Ch apter of the Order of Eastern Star, an active member of the Odd Fellows, r etired rural letter carrier, member of the R.L.C.A. of Michigan.Surviving Mr. Shook are his wife, Virginia; children, Ronald and Rosalie Shook, Phillip and Rosella Shook, David and Sally Shook, Catherine Sue and Bill VanPortFleet; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothe rs, Merle and Ruth Shook, Jay and Eileen Shook; many nieces and nephews.Funeral services were held Friday at the Caledonia United Methodist Chur ch with Pastor Bobby Dale Whitlock and Reverend Doctor Robert Wessman offi ciating. Interment Lakeside cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Grand Rapids or the Caled onia United Methodist Church Improvement Fund.
