STOUFFVILLE TRIBUNE, Mar. 2, 1944
Ministers Strangely
Preach from Same
Text at Funeral
_______
At the funeral service for the late
Mrs. Daniel Ramer held in the Wide-
man church on Sunday afternoon,
the ministers for the occasion wer
Messrs. Fred Nighswander of Altona
and Reuben Detweiler of Floridale.
As is the custom among the old Men-
nonites there are two addresses or
sermons preached on such occasions,
and strangely enough the two minis-
ters chose exactly the same text.
Revelation 14:13, "And I heard a
voice from heaven-saying unto me,
Write, Blessed are the dead which
die in the Lord from henceforth;
Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may
rest from their labours; and their
works do follow them."
These ministers residing at wide
distances (and of course who may
never have conferred with each other
had they been living in the same dis-
trict.) strangely enough wiere led
to choose the same text for this fine
old woman who lived to the ripe age
of nearly 86 years.
The decease was the former Ade-
laine Reesor of Scarboro, and was
the second wife of the late Dan
Ramer who predeceased her in 1932.
She was a woman of very fine quali-
ties, was converted at the age of 25
years when she joined the church to
which she owed allegiance for so
many years.
Mrs. Ramer had lived in her own
home for some years now in Mount
Joy, but during her active days re-
sided on the farm on the 7th conces-
sion. No children were born to her.
Surviving step-children are Misses
Elsie and Grace Ramer, Jonas, Leon-
ard, Sidney, and Eldon. Mrs. Ramer
is also survived by five brothers,
namely, Henry, Flavius, Herman,
Abram and Benjamin Reesor, and by
three sisters, Mrs. David Grove,
Markham, Mrs. Elias and Mrs. Joseph
Barkey, both of Pickering township.
The funeral on Sunday afternoon
proceeded from the late home in
Mount Joy to the Wideman church
and cemetery. Mr. Detweiler, one
of the ministers, is a relative of the
deceased by marriage.
The pall bearers were all nephews,
Messrs. Ernest, Wilfred, Frank and
Willis Reesor, Frank Barkey and
Russell Grove.
