- (Research): Obituary, THE RECORD, Kitchener, Ontario - Feb. 25, 2008 LEIS, Annie - Annie Leis, 87, of Tavistock, passed away in the Bonnie Brae Health Care Centre, Tavistock on Sunday, February 24, 2008. She was born in South Easthope Township, Perth County on October 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Jacob R. Bender and the former Veronica Schwartzentruber. Annie and her husband Millis were two of the founding members of Tavistock Mennonite Church. She married Millis Leis in East Zorra Township on November 29, 1939. He predeceased her on January 29, 2003. Annie is survived by one son, Wayne and wife Floris Leis of Wellesley; two daughters, Charlotte and husband Jurgen Pleil of Stratford, Karen and husband Ronald Burklen of Tavistock; nine grandchildren, Bob and Kim Leis of Windsor, Brent Leis and Brenda Wood of Waterloo, Faye and Steve Jantzi of Wellesley, Shawn, Annette, Heather and Jason Pleil, all of Stratford, Paula and Lucinda Burklen of Tavistock; four great-grandchildren, Hanna Leis, Aaron and Reegan Jantzi and Kyra Wood; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Elva Bender, Violet Leis and Ellen Leis, all of Tavistock, Elmer and Emily Zehr of Hesston, Kansas. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfrid and Aleda Bender, Cleason and Gladys Bender, and Wallace Bender; by sisters, Elsie Bender and Violet Zehr; by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Oscar and Annie Mae Leis, Dan and Nancy Leis, Elton Leis, Sylvester and Emma Baer, Leander and Katie Ramseyer. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home , 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Adams will officiate. Interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line.
