Obituary:
- Beverly Ann (Bender) Bourgeau, age 71 of Caledonia, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods. Bev was born on October 1, 1947, in Grand Rapids to Russell and Alice (Hackney) Bender. On August 3, 1968, she married the love of her life, Steve Bourgeau, who was the brother of her college roommate. Bev graduated with a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan in 1970, and in 1971 she and Steve moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There they had two children, Stephen and Christi. In 1976, the family moved to Southern California, where they lived for over 30 years. Bev was an active member of several social groups, and was always discovering new hobbies. She loved to travel, especially through Europe and Alaska, though her heart was always in western Michigan. In 2007, Bev and Steve returned to the Grand Rapids area, building a home in Alto. Bev was thrilled to be closer to her extended family, and to once again be a member of the Middleville United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed Christmastime, when she could help to decorate the church, but also cherished the summers, when she could host family parties at her house on the lake. Most importantly, Bev loved her family and always put them first, especially her children. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Steve Bourgeau; son, Stephen Bourgeau; daughter, Christi Bourgeau; brother, Robert (Carol) Bender; sister, Joan (Vinal) Tabor; sister, Mary (Steve) Wood; Steve's eight siblings and their families; several nieces and nephews; as well as her extended family and friends. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Sunday, September 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m at the Beeler Gores Funeral Home in Middleville. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Middleville United Methodist Church with Pastor Tony Shumaker officiating. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods will be appreciated. Please visit www.beelergoresfuneral.com to share a memory or to leave a condolence message for Bev's family.
