ST. JACOBS - native of Woolwich Township, Christian R. Martin, 78, died suddenly today at his home in St. Jacobs.
A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin, he was a carpenter all his life.
His first wife, the former Susannah Horst, died in 1945. In July, 1949, he married Marian Bowman, who survives.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. George (Leah) Horst* of Conestogo; one brother, Menno of St. Jacobs; four sisters, Mrs. Samuel Stauffler of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Norman Gingerich of Sarnia, Mrs. Gingerich, RR 2 Wallenstein, Mrs. David Hintz of RR 1 Wallenstein; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until 10 a.m. Friday. A private service will be conducted at his residence at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock at St. Jacobs Mennonite church and burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

* Christian and Marian raised Leah as their daughter, however she was the biological daughter of Christian's brother Menno and his wife.
