Obituary:
- Leena (Lana) Aulikki Cressman, age 62, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior with loving family at her side on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at TBRHSC after a brief illness. Leena was born on March 11, 1948 in Vahakyro, Finland. In 1951, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and sisters and settled in Conmee Township. The family returned to Finland and later returned to Port Arthur in 1962. Leena began her working career at the age of 16 at Violet Florist and later managed the store until its closure. She continued her managerial career at Agnew-Surpass for several years. Leena was most recently employed as a front desk clerk at the Shoreline Hotel. Leena was involved in numerous activities throughout her life which included: five pin bowling, euchre, TOPS, Women's Business Network and in her younger years teaching Sunday School at Christ Lutheran Church and volunteering at Camp Aurora. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Leena's proudest accomplishment was receiving her Grade 12 Diploma at the age of 46. Leena will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Dave of 26 wonderful years; sisters Aila Buckrell (Gerry), Hilkka Brown (Ian), Elsie Read (Jim) and Rita Mattila (Kal Chepil); nieces and nephews Christine Wolf (Ben), Steven Brown (Sheila), Marla Murray (Jeff), Clifford Read (Kathy), Terra Moquin (Rob), Michele Brown (Geoff Morris), Jennifer Read and all of their families, also survived by family and friends in Finland. Leena was predeceased by father Jaakko Mattila, mother Taimi Mattila-Romonas and step-father Frank Romonas. In accordance with Leena's wish, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2820 East Donald Street with Rev. Brian Lee presiding. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the Church. Interment will take place at a later date.
